Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
