The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
