The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:
- Each team includes just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
