Fans Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are demanding that a man who leaped a barricade and touched the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account features clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote another message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned security officers at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
