Ex- Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a ex- physician has been charged with performing sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

A senior prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what police called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
