Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials expressed anger after former President Donald Trump accused a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "turncoats" and stated they should be arrested and punished "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Message That Sparked the Controversy

The video footage, shared on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who previously acted in military or intelligence capacities.

"As we did, you all took an vow to protect and uphold this national charter," the representatives affirmed in the 90-second video. "Currently, the risks to our democratic foundation are not only from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are clear, you can refuse improper directives, you can decline illegal orders, you have to refuse improper directives. No one has to follow directives that contravene the legal system or our founding principles."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The recorded statement appeared to trigger a furious response from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he wrote: "This is really serious, and Dangerous to our Country. Their comments cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional publication, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Top Democrats published a unified declaration denouncing the remarks.

"Political violence has no place in the United States," they stated. "Representatives who participated in the video all worked our country with exceptional national pride and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous calls for execution against congressional representatives, and appeal to GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the security of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these extreme online messages and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he causes harm," the statement added.

Lawmakers' Defiant Answer

The representatives who appeared in the video also issued a statement.

"We serve as veterans and security experts who love this United States and swore an vow to safeguard and defend the national charter of the United States," they declared. "That oath is permanent, and we intend to honor it. No threat, coercion, or incitement will stop us from that sacred duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president views it punishable by death for us to reiterate the statutes," they stated. "Our service members should understand that we have their protection as they execute their vow to the national charter and obligation to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "The entire nation must come together and condemn the ex-president's requests for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a period for moral clarity."

Further Governmental Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's remarks and shared on social media: "It's important to understand: the former president is requesting the execution of elected officials."

He continued: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. All senators, all representatives, every American – without partisan consideration – should censure this without delay and without qualification."

The Conservative official supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "sedition", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This represents very harmful, you have leading members of Congress advising troops to ignore directives, I think that's historic in American history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the crime of treason" but that "attorneys have to examine the language and decide all that."

White House Response

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a reporter, "Would the president want to execute members of Congress?", the White House press secretary responded: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the spokesperson said. "We see current representatives of the US Congress who conspired to orchestrate a digital communication to members of the national defense, to current military personnel urging them to defy the commander in chief's proper directives."

She said: "The integrity of our military relies on the command structure, and if that structure is compromised, it can result in fatalities, it can cause confusion, and that's what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally encouraging."
