The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
