The Circumstances Surrounding the Tragic Incident
On Sunday morning, the child, named Hinata Goto, was preparing to exit the moving walkway at a northern resort when he lost his balance. His arm became ensnared in the equipment.
The conveyor featured a safety device, but it failed to activate. The machine only stopped when the boy's mother pressed the emergency stop button.
Emergency personnel spent 40 minutes dismantling part of the conveyor to extricate the boy, who by then had fallen unconscious. He was pronounced dead later at the hospital.
Resort Statements and Safety Mechanisms
Staff at the resort stated that the travelator's safety mechanism, designed to cease operations if it sensed a trapped object, had worked that same morning.
Investigators are conducting a probe to assess whether there was any negligence, such as in the manufacturing and servicing of the travelator.
